Everybody wants to feel good. We want optimal health, large amounts of energy, supportive social groups, loving relationships, plenty of money and to generally feel happy with our life. But life is a little more complicated than that. It throws you curve balls sometimes and it can feel like you are just surviving rather than thriving. So if you feel that your health has been affected, perhaps it’s time to seek help.

If you have been struggling with a physical, mental or emotional problem, then you have arrived at the right place in your life. Everything in your life has brought you to this point. You may not understand it yet, but the journey of learning is all for your benefit. How can that be? We are all here to learn, and through suffering and adversity, the contrast of good and bad is revealed. It allows you to identify what you want and what you don’t want. It differentiates your happiness from sadness. Without contrast, life would be bland and our potential to develop and evolve would be limited.

Often we find ourselves experiencing an illness or some type of health crisis. For help with a vast array of ailments, I can assist by getting to the core reasons why your health has been affected and will work with you to find natural solutions.

Evette Brown - naturopath - Torquay, Australia

I'm Evette, a unique naturopath. Let me give you some background. I have a Bachelor of Health Science - Naturopathy. In 2007 I completed my studies at the Australian College of Natural Medicine (ACNM) in Melbourne, Victoria. I am registered with the Australian Traditional Medicine Society (ATMS). My career in the health industry has spanned since 2001.

Currently, I am working and located in beautiful Torquay, Surf Coast region outside of Melbourne. I still remember my true roots though, of growing up in Darwin, Northern Territory. You don't get more Australian than that. It made me appreciate and respect the bush, nature and animals.

Why did I become a naturopath? I was struggling with my own health issues in my mid-twenties, with food allergies, infections and countless prescriptions of antibiotics. Pushed to seek alternative therapies, I found myself seeing a naturopath and homoeopath for treatment. As much as my symptoms were improving, they were not completely resolving. I threw myself into my own research of the body and alternative therapies and just kept going, eventually leading me to Melbourne and enrolling in the Naturopathy degree. I had a desire so strong that I could feel better and help others.

Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy)
Associate Diploma of Environmental Sciences

Naturopathy is nature's medicine for the whole being that encompasses herbs, nutrients, flower essences, food and homeopathy. The foundation of naturopathy is about listening to your body and learning the value of convalescence so that your body can deal and heal itself given the time and patience that is required.

Some of the important units that are the foundation of my naturopathy qualification include anatomy & physiology, human disease processes, pharmacology, food as medicine, clinical nutrition and herbal medicine. I regularly update my knowledge by attending current seminars and webinars through industry approved practitioner-only-companies.

There is not one right diet and lifestyle that suits everyone, we all have different needs and requirements unique to ourselves.  Treatments may require changes to your current eating regime or specific diet prescription. Dietary analysis or diagnostic testing (via NutriPath) may be required before prescribing diets such as gluten-free, anti-candida, SIBO & FODMAP.

I am confident in helping with a vast array of health conditions and am experienced in treating food intolerances, candida overgrowth, gut & digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, adrenal fatigue and compromised immunity. I have an interest in Pet Health - nutrition & diet. And like the challenge of identifying key hidden nutritional deficiencies and treating their causal factors. Working as a naturopath is similar to being a detective. It requires asking the right questions, looking for signs & symptoms, if needed choosing the correct diagnostic tool, and prescribing an effective treatment plan.

As a naturopath, my duty of care is to do no harm by working within my scope of practice, qualification and experience. I am not a medical doctor and am unable to give 24-hour support. If that is what you need, there are services available to you such as BeyondBlue (1300 224 636) or LifeLine (13 11 14). Anyone suffering from extreme anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts or a mental illness should contact their GP for a mental health plan assessment.

You-nique Prescribing

You-nique prescribing is what I uniquely bring to naturopathy. Because you are unique. You are different from everyone else. Unique prescribing is individual prescribing: applicable for your-needs-only. Based on logic, rationale, perception and intuition gained from my clinical experience extending over a decade.

- In naturopathy, there are general protocols to treat illnesses but not everybody responds in the same way. This is why You-nique prescribing takes into account all parts of you -
who you are - your constitution type
your family history - genes
the world you live in - environmental exposures
you are what you eat - intolerances or allergies
how you live - physical activity & social connections
the evidence - pathology
trauma - body or mind

From the information gathered, your treatment plan may include advice, remedies or solutions that aim to -
relieve your symptoms
treat your illness
identify your drivers
with a heart focus on preventive medicine & happiness
